Brazil gives GM sugarcane a go

Brazil, the world’s largest sugarcane producer, recently approved the commercial use of genetically modified sugarcane. The new variety’s resistance to the pest comes from the ‘Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis)’ gene, which has already been used in soya bean, maize, and cotton in the country.
